STEAMPUNK JEWELRY
Steampunk is a movement in fashion, art, literature and music. Part of what is now considered steampunk is an offshoot of the former Gothic movement. Steampunk is more about alternate past/futures and Victorian dystopic vision than about vampires and darkness. The theme of machines and eclectic combinations of gears and unlikely parts is seen in all forms of steampunk art.
To really understand steampunk, you could start by reading some of the fiction of Jules Verne and H. G. Wells. Their stories are considered essential steampunk. There are many contemporary authors writing in the steampunk tradition too. Look on Amazon under steampunk books and you will find a host of new authors.
In music, one of my favorite steampunk bands is Abney Park. They can easily be found on the web and their CDs are available on Amazon.
Some web sites you might enjoy while researching this topic are:
The Steampunk Workshop This is the a wonderful web site of Hicronymous Isambard "Jake" Von Slatt! He modifies or 'mods' all kinds of regular objects to make them steampunk.
Clockwork Couture: A Fine Steampunk Clothier This is a great site for clothing, accessories and all things steampunk fashion related.
My steampunk jewelry is all about play and fun. This line is not made from sterling or gold, but is done in brass, copper and nickel. This serves to make the line far less expensive and also gives the pieces the rougher, less sophisticated, steampunk style.
